Democrats Submit Sound Relief Plan For Pennsylvania
The Democratic minority in the General Assembly proposes a temporary relief and tax package to fund unemployment aid without raising utility rates. It calls for a 3 percent increase in the current eight mill tax levy on utilities gross receipts, deep cuts to state salaries over $3,000, use of unencumbered state funds, expanding old age assistance, and adopting a Recovery Act model to empower Roosevelt programs. It also seeks $20 million for relief, caps on salaries for special sessions, and independent inquiries into state contracts and liquor base dealings to ensure funds without harming utility customers.
