The soldier Dwight L Shaw was reported released from Toyama camp in Nogoys district in July 1989. His wife married Vandis Madsen five months later. Shaw’s parents say she was a nurse at Salt Lake General Hospital before moving to Nevada.

Talks between Ajax Tnon Works management and the I A M Indge union reprsentatives continued as federal and state officials prepared for a third meeting. A tentative Saturday members meeting may ratify any agreed points before a return to work next week, with pay issues and retroactive increases still under negotiation.
Tokyo premier Prince Higashi Kiini urged Americans to forget Pearl Harbor and the devastation of the atomic bomb, calling for a new peaceful Japan. He said the war is ended and Americans should bury hatred as Japan seeks a peace-loving future. Network walkout ends as NBC and ABC resume normal service after a 26 hour strike by about 500 engineers.
