Stiff Term for Larceny and Prison Transfers
Brig, Sept 14. A man described as a “colored floater” received the stiffest sentence of the current criminal term. He faced four to eight years in the Western Penitentiary and, after completion, will be moved to Allegheny County Worldhouse for one and a half to three years. He boasted of escaping, leading to added guard detail. Convicted 11 times across many states, he has served in numerous penitentiaries. In Bridgeport, a track division saved the George Washington elm by laying two blocks of track for a two way trolley line, rather than destroying Old Mill Green tree.
