Forbes and Spaulding Ford dealers announce a large front addition on Clinton Street and remodeling of the North Center street garage. The one story fireproof wing will range 64 by 100 feet, with display space for Ford cars and updated repair facilities. Work to start next week with the old Corry Bed Springs site razed.
Corry members will attend the Knights Templar gathering to be held at Hotel Conneaut Lake Park today. The unmovable Past Commanders council will serve a 6 o'clock meal with Knights Templar from the northwestern section of the state. Local attendees include Mr and Mrs J H Wright, Dr and Mrs S Peck, J Carl Smith, Mr and Mrs Wallace M Young, Bruni Ai Jones, F T Babbitt, Mr and Mrs L Morrow, Earl Halgett, and CH Gelger.
Paul Jaworski, Pittsburgh payroll bandit, was shot and captured in Cleveland after a fiery gun battle that left Patrolman Wieczorek dead and two other victims in critical condition. He faces possible death sentence in Pittsburgh while Detroit police pursue links to a Detroit News office robbery.
The Vicomte de Sivoue and the Vicomtesse, ex American Miss Violette Selfofilge, left Star Lane airdrome, London, today to fly around the world in a Moth light motor plane named the Safar. The Vicomte wore khaki trousers silk shirt and leather coat as they started the journey toward Paris.
Plans are well advanced for a large smoker and gathering of World War veterans from Chautauqua Warren Crawford and Erie counties in Jamestown tomorrow night. Lynn Van Vieck leads a Jamestown delegation of American Legion to attend the parade through the business district ending at the State Armory. A varied program of vaudeville acts and Uniontown convention films will be shown followed by a luncheon at the Armory to feed the visitors.
News of the sudden death of Miss Margaret Ashton reaches Corry friends. The longtime resident, who had planned a visit here, died at her home in New Brighton, Pa, while living with her brother Rev. M S Ashton, former rector of Emmanuel Episcopal church. Funeral services are planned for Monday at Hyde Park.
Henry Green and J E Young of this city will board a special train tonight enroute to New York City where veteran employees of the Renovo Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad will enjoy an outing of several days. A seven Pullman car train will carry the veterans to New York City. Harrisburg September 14 The Walted Natural Gas Co of Oil City filed with the Public Service Commission for approval to route some property to Empire Gas and Fuel Co The purchase price was listed AB 210 000
Michael Gannon, of Past Congress Street, stepped from the curb in front of the Hotel Corry and was struck by a Chevrolet coupe driven by Byron Blakeslee of Wattsburg. He suffered a scalp laceration and bruises but is reported to be improving toward recovery. Blakeslee stopped and assisted. police investigated.
A United Press survey reports thirteen deaths across Iowa Nebraska and South Dakota from tornadoes and related storms. Widespread damage plus many injuries disrupted communication and left property in the millions in Winnobago and surrounding areas.
A city council session is planned for Monday evening in the Municipal building. Members expect little business beyond routine items with a likely special meeting later in the week to finalize the ordinance for paving Spring Street between South and Pipersont streets.
A sea rescue reported that commander Louis DeMouget and two companions, last in a ship to shore plane from the French air service, have been landed by a steamer near Newlyn in Cornwall England. The men were rescued at sea and landed at Newlyn near Penzance.
Nine aircraft entered the trans continental nonstop air derby. Only one completed the trip from Roosevelt Field New York to Los Angeles but had to land for fuel near Prescott Arizona amid headwinds. Goebel piloted the Yankee Doodle and arrived to 43000 cheering spectators at Mines Field.
Police claim a farm raid on Piccadilly Hill yielded strong clues to a wholesale chicken theft ring. Investigators report epidemics of chicken pilfering across several farms, with a license plate secured and a Ball…sed vehicle suspected in the escape. Early arrests believed likely as troopers pursue the case.
Andrew Sueon was named by the Firemen's Benevolent Association to represent the group at the upcoming state convention next month. Frank Bliss will serve as the delegate for the Stanford Rose Company at the same statewide gathering.
United Press reports from Albany that Governor Smith tightens up state fences as he shifts to western campaign. No gubernatorial choice yet, expected near Rochester convention. Bray cites confidence Smith will carry New York. awaits state convention decisions on governorship and Senate seats. A statement responding to Syracuse rumors is planned for tomorrow.
The Woman's Club plans another meeting at Hotel Corry on Tuesday evening September 18 to decide on purchasing a club house or securing a new venue. A larger turnout is hoped next week to reach a definite decision while inspections of the Barlow property on Maple Avenue continue. The group travels to the Northwest Pennsylvania Woman's Federation conference in Warren next week. Lena Cohen resigns as secretary. Mrs. Thomas P. Giblin is appointed to fill the vacancy.
Chancellor Thomas E Benner reports the San Juan area suffered severe destruction from a hurricane. Hospitals were overwhelmed, communications down, and millions in losses feared. Famine and disease threaten the homeless as water and supplies run short.
John T. Dillon, formerly of Dillon, heads the combined Struthers-Wells company of Warren and the Titusville Tron Works Company, and Pittsville Forge company. He is a resident of Buffalo and well known here, remembered by older residents.
