Marine privates Dixie L. Maxton and Patricia J. Carter, Sparta merged high grads, complete recruit training at Parris Island. William F. Shreve Jr. reports for duty in Iwakuni, Japan. Gene E. Daugherty, and Maurice W. Gjertsen Jr., also graduate from Great Lakes training. Russell Caldwell completes eight weeks basic at Fort Dix then heads to Fort Belvoir for heavy equipment training.
