Memphis, Tenn. AP James Earl Ray may not testify in his own defense in the Shelby County murder trial set for Nov 12. Defense lawyer Arthur Hanes Sr. said the decision may come only after the prosecution rests and the judge orders witnesses. Hanes cites Tennessee law requiring the defendant to testify if called, noting Ray's criminal record could be exposed under cross-examination.
