Fight Ban on Coal Increase in Pennsylvania

Phila, Sept 13. Eight major anthracite producers notified Price Administrator Henderson they cannot accede to his order to ceiling an eight cent a ton increase due to Sept 16. Walter Merritt, counsel for the operators, said the order would freeze August 15 levels and prejudge the situation, arguing the raise is needed to sustain wages and reduce deficits in the industry. In Carbondale, two motorists died after crashes. Walterall, 22, a former Mayfield athlete and Army sergeant, died when his car struck a pole. Thomas Edward, 27, from Honendale, was killed in a separate collision.
