Sparta Fair Starts Today
The Sparta fair in Spartansburg begins today with a parade at 1 p m on Saturday. Officials aim for the largest community event yet as horses with their owners and contestants from Comy Will join the procession. Exhibits are being entered and placed at the school and fair grounds, livestock trucking completes this afternoon, ex-roast is a Saturday feature, and a fireworks display closes the three day event at 10 50 Saturday night. Substantial prizes are offered for participants in the various contests.

Weirton Steel Plans Four Million Oxygen Plant
Weirton Steel announces a four million dollar project to install an oxygen plant linked to blast furnace and open hearth operations. Parkersburg engineer Edward D. Connell said the contract goes to install units capable of 400 tons daily and will mark a first for using oxygen to boost output and reduce coke use in steelmaking.

Slayings Prompt Two Suspects Held in Ohio River City
In East Liverpool Ohio Police Chief Hugh J McDermott said two men are being held for questioning by Pittsburgh detectives in the slaying of Julia Pesko a 22 year old factory worker from McKeesport Pennsylvania last week No charges have been filed and one man reportedly told his landlady he would be reading about it in the papers The suspects are said to be from Grand Rapids Michigan Also included is a separate Colorado report noting the first sustained snow in Ouray with an inch on the passes and rain in lower elevations.
