Bingo Proves Decisive In Dunkirk Mayoral Race
Indications suggest bingo may swing the Democratic mayoralty contest between Mayor Thomas J. Egan and Frank Z. Bariela. Police Chief Warren has long opposed the game, aiding a county ban enforced earlier this year by District Attorney Hawin G. O. Dunkirk’s largely female bingo supporters blame the mayor for inaction, though he now supports the game and would permit it if he has the final say. Also noted is a 16 percent rise in Missouri automobile traffic in the first half of 1941.
