GE Erie Works recalls workers as refrigerator demand rises
ERIE September 10 Hundreds of employees laid off from GE's Erie Works East Spring plant because of reduced production schedules in the refrigerator division are being recalled. A pickup in customer orders for several refrigerator models requires overtime before the vacation shutdown. Production plans have been raised and many recalled workers will be rehired gradually, starting with the week of September 17, with additional group recalls weekly for at least seven weeks. Some recalled workers will return to cabinet and unit divisions, and others to the freezer division.
