Two McAllister brothers George and Glynn were killed when their Chevrolet was struck by Pennsylvania Railroad train 600 at the McMahon crossing east of Erie near Corry. The car was hurled down an embankment after the impact. both men died instantly. Their bodies were identified after arrival at Bracken-Keating mortuary. Glynn, 70, survived by wife Addie and several children and grandchildren. A double funeral is planned at Bracken-Keating.

The Navy will add credit for overseas service to its discharge system, boosting eligible civilians by 423,000 and raising total to 750,000. Overseas credits apply for duties outside the United States since 1939, including ship or commission assignments. Army meanwhile sets February to finish returning about 2,000,000 troops from Europe and 1,250,000 from the Pacific by June.
