Tax cases face test at Harrisburg October court dates
Harrisburg will host a series of seven tax cases in Dauphin County Court October 2 and 3. Attorneys for coal concerns challenge Pennsylvania industrial taxes including taxes on loans, shares, net income, capital stock, and the foreign franchise tax. A separate supreme court ruling on a bus company case could delay about 50 million in corporation taxes next spring. The Southern Pennsylvania Bus Company seeks 89 in interest over 1936 capital stock tax, challenging the self assessing system that would delay collections. Other cases include Erle Dry Goods challenging 1935 loans tax and Chester Power & Light contesting 1935 loans tax impact and 1936 adjustments.
