Manhunts Narrow Jamestown Robbery Trio

Police pursue three armed suspects after a Jamestown liquor store raid that left an elderly clerk injured. Leslie B. Pennington of California and Lloyd F. Butler of unknown address remain at large west of Jamestown, while Joseph Caslas of East Chicago, Ind was captured fleeing with the group. Over 100 officers comb a 15 mile wooded area as the search continues.

Corry Plant Expands With Insulated Building Addition

Corry Instrument Co plans a five to six week construction of an insulated steel addition at its Route 6 plant. The Heinslein firm of Erie will erect it. President Hubert Vaughn says welding and heat treating will move into the new building to relieve crowding. Beginning next Monday or Tuesday the old East South street plant will reopen and part of the staff will transfer there to boost production of jet engine parts.

A former Corry man, James W. Custer, who moved with his wife to Phoenix, has been missing from his Phoenix home since June. He is believed back in Corry, while his wife remains in Phoenix. An Arizona welfare investigator asked local police to search for Custer, who left Phoenix on June 9 and bought a one way ticket to Corry. Custer’s wife suspects he may have visited Corry with a woman he previously roomed with there. Police are pursuing leads and have identified the wife Kiss as now married and living in Fatcoutr.

The Pentagon plans a major reinforcement of U S forces in Europe. About 400000 troops would boost the 250000 currently in Europe, raising total U S strength by roughly 16 percent. United States seeks Berlin settlement via diplomacy

Washington reports say Western efforts to open Berlin talks with the Soviet Union have so far been unsuccessful though U S officials remain confident negotiations may occur. Secretary of State Rusk cautioned Moscow against unilateral action and warned the Kremlin not to mistake Western desire for peace as willingness to concede to Berlin demands. Area Man Hit By Two Cars Killed on Foggy Road

A 55 year old man, Herbert Waite of Warren RD 1, was struck and killed by a car while walking home on a foggy Jackson xan road near Warren at 1:25 this morning. The body was hit again by a second car whose driver stopped. The first motorist, Eccles of Falconer, searched for Waite but could not locate him. Kenneth Hoffman of Warren drove by, saw Waite in the road, but could not stay to help as his car struck him as well. Coroner Lowrey said it is not clear if Waite was alive when the second hit occurred. The investigation continues. neither driver was held.

Wright School gets windows reinstalled after remodeling

The Corry office of the Pennsylvania State Employment Service and the new Buyers' Pair Inc retail outlet will relocate to the old Loblaw building on North Center Street. Opening dates will be announced soon as both establishments prepare to hire about a dozen workers for full-time and part-time positions. Buyers' Pair will offer men work clothes sporting gear and appliances while the PSES interviews applicants on West Main Street with joint leadership from Buyers' Pair and Corry Rubber Co.
