Expect Hay Prices To Be Maintained

Washington AP report says hay prices unlikely to drop this fall and winter despite a 1975 crop. Hay output seen at 130 million tons, up 3 percent, with record cattle inventories and high grain prices keeping demand strong. Prices peaked at 56.30 per ton in May and were 51 at mid August. ERS notes if grain prices ease, hay costs may fall a bit, but 140.1 million cattle on July 1 supports solid demand and limits declines.
