Farm Manager Fired In Rouse Estate Restructure
YOUNGSVILLE The Rouse Estate commissioners abruptly fired farm manager Robert Rowland after an executive session. His wife Helen Rowland resigned as housekeeping supervisor. Rowland served 35 years at the county home and will receive a small pension. The board intends to end all farm operations by spring 1966 and hire a single part time worker. Commissioners Crippen and Lay approved, Mead dissented. They cite annual savings of about 3000 dollars and improved appearance as rationale, while Hughes report is disputed for overstated figures. Acreage leased to bean growers exceeds initial estimates, but farm labor costs are seen as lower with operation discontinued.
