Traffic Deaths Near 900 Over Labor Day Weekend

The Nation’s roads saw traffic fatalities rise during the long Labor Day weekend but may not hit the 1969 record. As of the latest tally, traffic deaths stood at 523, with 18 boating deaths and 57 drownings. Howard Pyle of the National Safety Council credited careful driving for keeping totals below the previous peak.

Corry Toll Reports Three Accidents No Injuries

Corry area highways saw three traffic crashes over Labor Day weekend investigated by State Police at the local substation. Dana Baldwin, 16, of Titusville, was southbound on Route 8 when a truck driven by Andrew Catalde, 29, of Erie, attempted a pass and clipped Baldwin’s car, sending Catalde’s truck off the road. no injuries and about 200 dollars damage. William Samlock, 38, of Erie, failed to pass safely and collided with Lewis Zender, 74, of Grove City, on Route 8. no injuries and roughly 550 dollars damage. Levi Catalfa, 29, of Corry, on Route 6 near Marsh’s Plaza, failed to see Winifred Utepe, 44, of Columbus, and struck Utepe’s station wagon. minor damage estimated at 100 dollars to Catalfa’s vehicle and 100 dollars to Utepe’s car.
