School enrollment climbs in Gary Public Schools
Enrollment for the first week of the 1984-85 term in Gary Public Schools shows an overall rise from the past two years. Elementary enrollment reached 1,888, up from 1,776 and 1,376 in the prior two years, while Junior and Senior Highs remain below 1983-84 figures. Postgraduates will register at Senior High, with 25 to 30 expected to re-enter. The Senior class currently has 79 students, and Corry High reported its largest class of 93 graduates last June.

Child killed under father's car at Niobe
Four year old Jeanne Marie Beightol daughter of Rev Donald Beightol was run over by his car in Niobe around 3 30 pm. She died at Jamestown General Hospital at 6 15 pm. Coroner ruled accidental death. Funeral at Niobe Baptist Church Monday at 2 pm with Niobe Cemetery burial.

800 Gallon Still Seized in Erie Raid
Fran Vendetta, 41, was arrested as authorities seized an 800 gallon still the largest found in the district. Federal, state and city police joined the raid at the Erie operation which had run for two months. The seizure included mash and sugar valued at about 7500 dollars and raised questions about the owner.

80 Bodies Recovered From Sea After Morro Castle Fire
At Point Pleasant on September 8 a total of 80 bodies were brought ashore by fishing boats and coast guard vessels searching for victims of the Morro Castle fire. Many appeared half alive but resuscitation teams failed to revive any. No identifications were attempted. Boats Doris D No 2 and Chetrod brought ten and three bodies respectively, while Par amount docked with ten more at the Shell Beach area as survivors totaled seventy. Crews said the sea remained rough and cold as they continued the grim search. Great crowds gathered at the waterfront.
