Police arrest a gang of eight youths aged about 22 or younger after several burglaries at Wellejns Bakery and Kipp Confectionery on Bidet Main Street. Early confessions obtained as hearings with Alderman C. B. Porter approach.
Police search for Melvin Bennett 28 and Otto 14 of Wellaburg, Wi Vay after escaping Burgelots Town jail minutes after lodging. They allegedly fled cell by picking locks, then beat Joseph McClurg 78 in a Breraville farm house attempt to rob. Mrs. J H Gibbona stayed at Spring Creek over weekend.
A cross-network lineup lists NBC network eight o clock with Wear and Larit Hour, Famous Challenges of History premiering on WABC and GBB networks. Clare Briggs characters directed with Mrs. premiering on MEAT NEC networks. General Electing Symphony on WHAT NEC network eight, Het Lucky Strike Orchestra on WABC CBS networks seven. Kwit Howe features on CBS network BST at seven.
Radio listeners in Corry followed the Schneider Cup races at Ryde England as British and Thala aircraft sped between 800 and 832 miles an hour. James Crown heard the broadcast and distinctively heard roaring motors. A world speed record of 3240 miles an hour was claimed.
Premier Aristide Bristol denied a project directed at the United States asserting the European federation would not target America. Observers say the proposed alliance could challenge U.S. tariff rules and debt positions, while Britain’s Labourites push to strengthen the League for international harmony.
Flight Lieut Rich Aitcherley set a new world speed record of 832.40 mph on the third lap of the Schneider Cup race in England. He broke the previous lap record held by Lieut R D Waghorn, who finished with an average 328.68 mph for the course. Waghorn won the cup for England, while Aitcherley achieved a 890.44 mph 100 kilometer record on the same event.
Amos Tanner, 40, a Beaverdam farmer, suffered serious internal injuries when the scaffold of a silo collapsed during construction. He fell to the ground, was rushed to Corry hospital for X ray exams, and doctors expect to determine the full extent of his injuries this afternoon.
London announces the death of Captain A C Woodbridge, a British World War I hero, after a crash near Ji s, Perel, when a London to India flight caught fire. Two others died, including G Bell of the Indian Forestry Commission, and J Court of Imperial Airways. Two more were seriously injured.
New York Sept 7 Stock market activity reached the largest volume for a four Saturday session since March 14 with 3,503,400 shares changing hands. Prices closed irregular after a profit-taking pullback. Radio Corp active but down three points from yesterday. General Motors remained a leader, supplanted by Columbia Graphophone as lender. Early brisk trading saw the first half hour sales exceed 800,000, with Columbia Graphophone the outstanding mover. GM opened with 25,000 shares and saw a broad selling wave. Reports of Radio Corp negotiating to sell products through GM agencies circulated, while earlier rumors of a full agency sale were denied except as related to auto equipment use. Gains of one to five points appeared in several issues including Columbia Graphophone, Public Service of New Jersey, American Radiator, Standard Sanitary, International Telephone, Anaconda Copper and Westinghouse Electric.
Joseph Tash, 28, fined 27.50 in police court for delivering a Communistic address before the National Tube Company plant. Samuel Herman, 22, and Miss Pauline Truhar, 21, to be arraigned in Morala county court in Pittsburgh Monday on the same charge. They were arrested in the North Side yesterday as part of commemorations for Communal International Youth Day.
United Press reports Senator Walsh plans a resolution to disclose if United States Steel profited from a five year contract with the Soviet Union for 80 000 to 160 000 tons of manganese annually. He suspects the deal may have influenced tariff votes and notes potential duties lost to the government if the contract remained.
The Department of Highways at Harrisburg will open bids on Thursday September 12 for the Spartansburg road improvement between Corry and Crawford County. The project includes paving a stretch in Crawford County with plans to connect the city to Sparlinburg by fall 1930. Early contract setting may start fall construction and seed road building in spring 1930. The severed season limits extensive work this year. John Skiffington 11 of McKeeport died from injuries from a fall at home yesterday.
Washington September 7 President Hoover and Senator Borah urged investigations by the justice department and the Senate naval affairs committee to probe the big navy lobby opposing naval reduction. The probe aims to determine patriotic versus pecuniary motives amid suits connected to Newport News shipbuilding and Bethlehem Steel. Hoover said responsible directors should explain the allegations as public, government, and corporate interest demand.
Otumwa dispatch reports Viking Priest was saved from a two foot well after a cave in trapped him for about 40 hours. Red Emery carried the limp man to a tunnel beside the shaft for extraction and a drink of water. Priest was taken to St Joseph’s hospital for examination as doctors feared internal injuries. President Hoover slated a Western trip for some time next month, White House said.

Coronel C. A. Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh left Lambert-St. Louis at 5 48 am to join the hunt for the missing City of San Francisco airliner. More than 60 planes search the route from Albuquerque toward Winslow Arizona where the wreckage had been hoped. The search focuses on rough country near Walps New Mexico and eastern Arizona as officials report no substantial leads despite reports of four persons seen near Hopi county.
Overcast conditions greet the dedication as the American Legion prepares to dedicate the Cornelisville community airport. Willem P. McCracken of Washington, junior secretary of the Department of Commerce, will formally dedicate the facility this afternoon with earlier arrival expected. An attempted assassination in Vienna notes Wilhelm von Ziegler of the Hungarian press department wounded while leaving the regation. Adalpert Chalupny identified as the assailant and immediately arrested.
