U.S. explodes a small A-Bomb at Nevada test site
Atomic scientists detonated a nuclear device at Yucca Flat Nevada in a 1957 test. The blast, nominally 20 kilotons but observers estimated under 10 kilotons, occurred at 5:45 a.m. from a balloon 500 feet above the area. Newsmen were kept from the site as a fireball appeared briefly and a semicircular cloud rose. The AEC called weather perfect and predicted little fallout.
