New Alarm System Cuts False Calls
Detzer reports that several North American cities are adopting fire alarm telephones that bypass exchanges. Trained dispatchers answer instantly, allowing callers to specify needs whether fire police rescue or medical aid. The system dramatically reduces false alarms, with Syracuse 60 percent false prior to adoption and Omaha 66 percent.
