Escape Try Leaves Cans In Garbage
PITTSBURGH AP Two convicts attempting to escape from Western Penitentiary hid in the back of a garbage truck and were smothered by the compacting mechanism. Kenneth Perrine 29 of Mercer and Robert Lenigan 44 of Pittsburgh died of asphyxiation in the trash load. Their bodies were found when the truck reached a dump about 15 miles away in Imperial after an anonymous tip. State police were on hand when the truck was unloaded. Both men were already dead.

Weir balks at funds for witnesses aid program
