Miss America pageant opens with two winners in Atlantic City
In Atlantic City New Jersey 4000 spectators watched Miss New Mexico Patricia Jo Brummett and Miss Ohio Kathy Lynn Baumann win talent and swimsuit divisions respectively on night one of Miss America 1970. Brummett twirled opera with luck charms in her shoes while Baumann flaunted a 36 23 36 figure and said show business is her aim. Brummett hopes for a music career and a teaching post. Baumann wears a Sacred Heart medal and a threepence as good luck charms and will wait for her father to graduate before pursuing opportunities. The field of 50 contestants performs in three nights before Saturday’s crowning.
