Fred Hinckley, a well known Union City farmer, died in Union City hospital after his son Milford, 28, shot him in the arm and chest during a Labor Day celebration. The arm was amputated. Hinckley died about seven last night. Milford was committed to Warren asylum.
United Press reports Oslo observers say hope for Roald Amundsen and Italia expedition members may have faded. Tromsoe telegrams mention sealers Doggeren sighting an empty cask northeast of Seven Islands on August 2 and a polar bear assembly near Foyne Island on August 9. National mourning for Amundsen continues as Byrd is messaged.
Washington reports pilots Bert Hassell and Parker D. Cramer of the Greater Rockford may be brought back from Greenland aboard the Coast Guard cutter Marion. The aviators, down since August 10 after a forced landing, have wandered Greenland seeking Mt Evans and were aided by a university expedition. They plan to move toward Holstenbere or the Greenland coast as efforts continue to recover them.
The Albany council plans an evening session to take initial action on an eight-point bill for Spring Street improvements between Soulh and Pleasant Streets. A light agenda is expected with routine bills, communications, and petitions. Governor Alfred F. Smith, campaigning in New York, says Republican claims about ballots are unfounded and that he is confident of carrying the state.
Neighbors on West Smith Street protested the removal of three maple trees in front of the new Amundsen gas station. They challenged the builders claim the trees were on the property and urged city officials to halt the action. The dispute centered on preserving the western end tree, described as a beautiful specimen, amid construction by The Amundsen Supply Company and city authorities.
An automobile traveling on Union City road last evening around eight struck the driveway near the second hill. A Star car leading a long procession avoided a collision by swerving, toppled an embankment, and ended up on top of the Mallet vehicle. Both cars were badly damaged and occupants injured.
Sydney N S W Sept 4 Catholics from around the world gather for the 29th international Eucharistic congress opening after a solemn triduum. American bishops lead a party including Bishop John J Dunn of New York with notes of island port demonstrations. Cardinal Cerretti will attend and address the gathering, as local figures host visiting dignitaries and business leaders.
Corry residents recount a serious head on collision on the Waterford road near Erie Monday afternoon. Five were injured, two seriously, including four month old Sars Shreve and Zigmund Kubiak, with others: Catherine Adams, Ida Kowalski, and Arthur Shreve. The Shreve child and Kubiak are listed in most serious condition. Hospital reports say Kowalski and the rest remain under observation. State police say the Ohio car attempted a pass and met the Shreve vehicle head on with Guy Shreve uninjured.

German aviators Johann Ristlee and Hine Zimmermat, who were en route to China, were forced to land in Moscow due to bad weather. They piloted the same Junkers plane and had recently set a 65 hour Might record.
Superintendent Ralph S Dewey reports Corry Public Schools opening with an enrollment near 1500. Senior High registers 277 students, Junior High 305, primary 718, total 1301. last year totals were 1290. Parochial St Edward's projects about 200, exact numbers pending.
Byron Babbitt of St Louis, visiting in Corry at his brother Frank T Babbitt s home, gave a detailed Rotary Club talk on Charles Lindbergh s cross Atlantic flight. He described St Louis backers and behind the scenes financing, and shared personal anecdotes about Lindbergh s temperament and preparations. Guests included David B Dale of Butler and Glen C Mead of Philadelphia, former Rotary International president.
John Coolidge son of President Coolidge arrived in Chicago from the Summer White House at Brile with several job offers but said he has no decision yet. He came at about 6:35 A M and departed at 10 A M for New York, meeting newspapermen at the station.

Le Bourget field reports the Yellow Bird monoplane, with Sergeants Jean Assolant and Rene Fevre aboard, left Paris for a transatlantic flight to New York via Cape Finisterre, the Azores, and Azores. The craft reportedly lacks a radio and may route through Dakar.
Charles Geiger business manager of the Corry School District suffered severe burns to his left hand and a glancing blast scratched his face in an explosion at the library building basement offices. A furnace valve had been opened unknowingly, releasing gas and triggering the blast this morning.
A huge Labor Day celebration drawn by the Corry Credit Exchange drew an estimated seven to eight thousand people to City Park. The event featured motor dealer exhibits, the Coleman Band, roast ox sandwiches, and free coffee, with athletic events for youths and a horseshoe tournament. Worth Hammond led the planning and Marry Spicer oversaw the youth activities as crowds enjoyed a day of entertainment despite morning showers.
