State police report a two year old Franklin girl Jacqueline Lee Johnson died after becoming entangled in bedclothes while attempting to climb from her crib. Coroner ruled death accidental due to suffocation.
FRANKLIN Office and Professional Employes International Gion 1st night ratified a three year contract with Joy Manufacturing of Franklin. The union representing about 200 workers went on strike when its contract expired Wednesday at midnight. Also on strike was Local 142 IAM representing about 25 employes. The office employees settled, but the time study group of Local 1842 IAM continues. No figures were available on the office employees' contract.

In Ashtabula Ohio firefighters of Local 165 IAFF accepted a revised contract late Friday ending a two day strike. The deal includes a 9620 across the board pay raise retroactive to January and a 54 hour work week next year, with base pay previously 10500. Only two on duty during the strike but calls were minor and covered by neighbors.
The Associated Press reports that Labor Day Weekend traffic safety is a concern as the National Safety Council estimates 470 to 570 deaths in crashes. About 13.5 billion miles are expected to be traveled during the holiday, which began at 6 p.m. Friday local time.
