Mrs. Charles Shaver of 7 Went Main Street received a telegram stating her brother Clyde Veney Shirey was severely wounded in action on August 9. He served in the Machine Gun Company of the 112th Regiment, enlisting when the unit organized. Shirey had worked at the Corry Brick Plant, where his brother-in-law was superintendent.
