Flooding Ruins Town Roads and Mills After Heavy Rains

Severe rains caused a major flood in the Humble Humber area and surrounding valleys. The Clymer pond broke its embankment, washing out the Creek channel and flooding Corry and nearby districts. Mills at Clymer suffered heavy damage, tracks on Columbus line washed out, streets left ripped and impassable, and many basements flooded while roads required extensive repair and detours.

Near Electrocution and Train Tragedy Strikes Two Families

A Sunday evening accident left young Harry Spencer fatally injured after a fall near the Washington Street crossing when a freight train struck him. In a separate incident, Andrew Paulson survived a dangerous electric shock when a fallen union wire contacted a live line while he was visiting his grandparents on Liberty Street. Mrs. Jensen and the Paulsons aided the victims before emergency crews arrived. Spencer faced a severe skull fracture and was hospitalized with uncertain recovery.

Lightning strikes Corry residence during storm

A noon Monday thunderstorm bolt struck Mrs Louisy Anton’s Seventh Avenue home in Corry. The lightning ripped plaster, damaged brickwork, and splintered shelving but caused no fire or serious injuries though neighbors felt numbness briefly.

Harris Watrous Barn Burned in Sunday Storm

A severe thunderstorm struck near Clymer injuring Alaris Watrous barn with hay grain and 40 chickens lost. The horses were rescued and Watrous held $600 on the building, insufficient to cover the loss. A neighboring blaze on O A Richards farm destroyed another barn, with $1200 insurance noted and not enough to cover damages.

Hinman Farm Barn Destroyed By Lightning Near Corry

A noon lightning strike on the Hinman farm north of Corry ignited a barn containing four small stock and four horses along with hay and grass. The barn stood far from the residence, preventing spread to other buildings. A cow on the Hinman property was killed in a recent electric storm and the homestead suffered other losses.
