Tax Abatement Bills Prompt Legislator Pressure
Harrisburg reports lawmakers faced lobbying to drop compulsory features of tax abatement bills as the legislature prepares for fall reconvening. Local officials groups favor targeted tax relief linking penalties and installment payments to past-due levies. The drive includes county treasurers and sheriffs amid opposing views from Taxpayers' Forum of Pennsylvania. In the Senate a farm-relief measure by Sen John H. Dent advances, while a separate section expands compromise options for delinquencies.
