Greeley school is closed due to a chickenpox outbreak with nearly every local family under quarantine. Community members note illness across nearby towns as residents isolate. multiple educational staff and families are mentioned in relation to the closure.
Lloyd Simmons of 147 Brown's Avenue is named as defendant in a 40420.89 damage suit filed in Pris county court. Plaintiffs are Franti and Olive Straub of 2934 1-3 Schestnut Street. The case alleges Simmons beat his former wife so severely she still suffers effects. Also noted: McGirr, 79, former president of the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, died in Pittsburgh on Friday.
The Finance Committee met with the tax collector to review school tax collection methods. It urges timely payment, explains delinquency penalties, and requests discretion in levies while affirming no one can be exempted from legally assessed taxes. It asks taxpayers with delinquent accounts to arrange payment to avoid added costs.
Rose Miskow a 15 year old girl of Urban Road Dunkirk died at Brooks Memorial hospital after a fractured skull from an automobile accident on Southwestern Boulevard near Irving three weeks earlier. She was treated at Carr Hospital in Silver Creek then at Dunkirk hospital. She is survived by her parents Mr and Mrs Alex Miskow, one brother and four sisters.
Vincent Herbein aged 41 of Ninth Street and William Weatherly aged 52 were arrested following a report of a bullet fired from a machine gun while intoxicated. A nurse driving by saw a man in a vacant Allen Street lot fire a shot and then observed Herbein walking away. Weatherly was later arrested near Spring and Hast Third streets en route to police headquarters.
Edward B. Allen, editor of the Jamestown Post for 81 years, died suddenly of a heart attack at home in Be mus Point at 10 50 a m He was 64. He had been at his office Friday before feeling ill Survived by wife Mrs Martin Allen a daughter Mrs Everett Waudey Jr of Hast Orange Nel a son Dr Edward Allen of Cortland a daughter Mrs J Garton Bowen and two grandchildren Thomas E B Rowan and Constance Rowan and his mother Mrs Rosetta Allen of Canandaigua.
Mrs Aline Thorsen a Highland Park resident 26 died after a Lake Road accident near Hartysbourg Beach. Her husband Ralph Thorson and two sons Helen Harmon and Ormand Sinner survived. siblings and other relatives were injured but discharged. The car skidded off pavement, crashed into a ditch and hit a telephone pole.
