Farm Fires Leave Several Homes Destroyed In County
Fire over the weekend swept farm dwellings in the Cory area causing losses running into thousands of dollars. Two houses were completely destroyed with furnishings lost, and families left homeless. A fire at W H Ross’s home in Wayne township destroyed the structure and its contents while the origin remained a mystery. The Ross home had been vacant for weeks and the area received aid from the Second Ward truck, but firefighters arrived too late. Another blaze at Harvey Whitehill and Walter Purdy’s Corry owned farm near Dawson farm north of Columbus left the home razed and uninhabitable, with the owner Edward Smith staying there briefly. A fourth home formerly owned by Lovena Faulkner was destroyed, with losses around 3500 dollars and insurance status not yet known.
