Beaver Falls meter maids Marie Morrell and Lauretta McConahy allege sex discrimination for pay and benefits not matching policemen. The Human Relations Commission ruled for parity dating to 1971, while the city appeals. If upheld, state wide implications could follow, as meters contribute about 10 percent of the city budget.

Shapp Urges Large turnout at Democratic rallies
Governor Shapp campaigned four weeks before the election urging Democrats to work hard for a big victory on November 5. He addressed about 4,000 at the Philadelphia Civic Center, aiming to retain the Senate and win the House, while Sen. Edward Kennedy attacked the Ford administration’s economic policies. He offered a political pardon to those who voted against him in past elections if they support him in 1974.
