A group of 17 cancer patients and supporters, including Krebiuzen drug users, kept vigil outside Health Secretary Celebrezze's office in Washington urging President Johnson to overrule the ban on Krebiozen shipments. Jacob Mohler 74 and his wife Ruth 61, of Lancaster, died within an hour of each other from heart failure. Jacob passed away first during the night, and Ruth collapsed and died soon after, seemingly from a heart attack.
COLUSA Calif AP Seven elderly residents died in a fast moving rest home fire. Coroner Howard Moore said deaths were from carbon monoxide poisoning. Caretaker Ernest Linebaugh and inmate Rosa Rourke helped rescue six others before flames cut off power and light.
Robert L. Lewis twenty of Tryonville and Richal Allen nineteen of R D 3 Centerville were charged with stealing about twenty dollars in items from the Hunter Oil Lease in Gil Creek Township Crawford County. After restitution and court costs at arraignment before Alderman Allen Love Titusville they were released.
Police report two break ins on Eagle street last night. At Carnation Milk Co. a west side window was broken and $35 in cash plus $15 in change were taken from a locked filing cabinet and a machine change bag. Hammond Lumber showed no entry or loss. Officer Kop pel continues inquiries today.
The Corry Area School Building Authority re-elected a slate of officers and members including Smiley as head. Howard Hammond resigned after 11 years. Justin Butters replaces him. New officers elected include Donald Wharton as vice chair, Max Brown as treasurer, and Jerome Davis as secretary. The board approved contract changes for Concord School including sidewalk and curb work and extra costs for installing a gym divider at the high school, involving moving heating ducts and lighting fixtures.
The Board of Adjustment unanimously approved William Hammond of Hammond Lumber Co to construct a Butler style building 80 by 72 feet on a West Smith Street site near the city line in a zone labeled R-1 residential. The appeal required orderly premises and concealed outside storage. The case involved Gene Telephone Co service center and a residential district appeal.
