Orin Kinney of Warren Ohio crashed his Chevrolet into a parked car on First Avenue to avoid striking a small child who dashed into the street. Kinney, traveling south, swerved when a northbound car approached and the child escaped injury. Both cars suffered notable fender damage.
Huff, long time business agent for the I. A. of M. AFL in Corry, has been transferred to Bradford to supervise several APL unions in that city and nearby New York towns. George Nelson, general business agent for the district, will spend two days weekly at the Cory office located at the T. A. of My Rin headquarters in the Barlow block.

Somerset Pa October 25 District Attorney Paul Fike said a murder charge will be filed today against Frank Burkholder 43 coal miner of Garrett whose wife Kathryn 39 died yesterday at a neighbor's home as a result of injuries seen earlier. Somerset County Coroner Philip Dash said the woman died from severely injured brain issues. State Police Paul O Mara said Mrs Burkholder fell into a coma Saturday after staggering and crawling to a neighbor’s home.
Lew Ayres, once a film star who refused military service as a conscientious objector, returns to San Francisco. The 36 year old veteran appears aged by war service and says he is uncertain about his future while being praised by friends as “a good guy and a good GI.”
Washington and Associated Press report that a committee drafting the conference agenda proposed discussing wage policy, hours and labor relations. President Truman was expected to outline a seven point program focusing on labor relations and possible wage controls as unions press for higher pay.
Harrisburg Oct 25 A ruling by the Unemployment Compensation Board held a month is a reasonable time for a displaced war worker to find work at comparable wages before benefits can be refused. The decision supports similar claims and cites USES offices nationwide as guidance. Rose A. Grosser of Johnstown, once a steel inspector, was denied benefits after refusing a cigar plant job and a silk mill job paying less than her prior earnings.
Louis Spencer of Albion, former manager of Blatt Brothers theatre, and Richard Bish of Erie were sentenced yesterday by Judge Evans to eight months in the county jail. Spencer admitted embezzling several hundred dollars from the Corry theatre where he worked and Bish pled guilty to a $318.42 theft from the theatre. Spencer has made restitution for the amount charged.

Tokyo October 25 Fleet Admiral Osmar Nagano, wartime head of Japan's Navy, said a formal declaration of war should have preceded the Pearl Harbor attack by thirty minutes but delays in Tokyo caused the timing to shift. He accepted full responsibility for ordering the attack and said he expected to be prosecuted for war crimes.
