Italy to start work on two 95 thousand ton battleships

Paris reports Italy will immediately begin building two battleships of 95,000 tons each. French naval leaders study plans for three battle cruisers around 80,000 tons. The move sparks talk of a naval race amid talks among United States Britain Japan and France.

Safety expert tours city with talks on careful driving

Philadelphia safety director Russell Craig spoke at a Jimelteon meeting and visited Corry schools to urge safer driving. Overton says Huey ally beaten in hotel fracas

Senator John H. Overton, ally of Huey P. Long, claims he was attacked and beaten in a hotel by Bert Henry, president of the New Orleans Honest Election League. Overton says Henry struck him with blows to the face, leaving facial cuts, before bystanders separated them in the lobby.

Tighe Wins Steel Union Presidency Amid Strikes Debate

Genial veteran Mike Tighe won re election as president of the Amalgamated Union, with steel executives pleased by a period without a general strike. Vote totals cited as 4743 for Tighe and 2828 for Libert opponent George Williams of Cannonsburg, though returns were not officially announced. Williams drew Liberal support from Earl J. Forbeck.

Richetti Surrender Planned to Missouri Authorities

Columbiana county officials reverse stance and prepare to extradite Adam Richetti, Floyd’s lieutenant, to Boone County Missouri for trial on two policeman slayings. If extradition is waived, transfer may be delayed. Richetti held in secure county jail as Floyd leader Way’s body heads to Oklahoma. Floyd killed by federal agents after a gun battle. Richetti was captured Saturday.

Record Run M-10001 Sets Coast to Coast Speed Mark

The M-10001 bullet train arrived at Grand Central New York in two days eight hours and fifty five minutes from Los Angeles. An electric engine pushed the streamliner through New York City with passengers including W Averill Huttimand onboard. The speed reached about 120 mph on some stretches while engines were silenced for station rules. The earlier record of 71 hours 27 minutes by E H Harriman stands surpassed.

Spring Creek road opening draws notable visitors

Spring Creek will host a major road opening ceremony at 8 o clock with a large turnout expected. Noted guests include Samuel B. Lewis secretary of state highways Thomas C. Frame division engineer LeRoy B. Chapman state senator and others. The program features short talks by officials followed by a street dance. The Baldwin Brothers Construction shows progress on the Spring Greek Galland stretch with 1.84 miles east from Spring Greeks and a 1 similar length stretch contracted by J C Devine Co. It is anticipated the Gatland road improvements will continue into 1935.

Bus Driver Held After Fatal Bus Crash in Indiana Pa

Charles Enneke, 24, of Huntingdon Pa, driver of a Chicago to New York bus, remained jailed awaiting a coroner s inquest after a crash in Indiana Pa that killed two people. Victims identified as Mrs J R Jensen of Chicago and H B Marion of San Francisco. Morris Israel of New York was seriously injured and in critical condition.
