Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev reportedly softened demands in a Poland crisis after a telephone discussion with Polish leaders. Polish officials signaled future relations with the USSR would be based on equality, amid U S backed pressure and factional strife within Poland.

Elena Dice sok of Deteait arrives in London with 2 year old Tiny behind in an arm held by a governess in a bid to secure custody. The British High Court had placed the child’s custody with its mother while Alexis Chwastoy, the child’s father and husband of Dice sok, had taken the boy to the Soviet Union.
