Truman Also Seeks Calm Clarification on Racial Issue
The New York Times reports Mr. Truman asserts a calm clarification is needed in the racial and religious dispute he raised against General Eisenhower. He maintains Eisenhower would not be anti Jewish or anti Catholic and stands by his charge that Eisenhower would accept practices tied to the so called muster race. Truman does not withdraw the statement. The paper notes Eisenhower endorsed several Republican congressional candidates who voted to override Truman’s veto of the McCarran immigration bill. Senator Connally and Senator George are named among those voting to override.
