Corry State Police continue investigations into a hit and run that damaged a fence on Ray Griswold property. A motorist skidded off the road and into the fence. auto parts found at the scene may identify the driver this weekend.
Army Col. Charles S. Cumings Jr. formerly with the Policy Planning Council and now with the Military District of Washington was charged with drunkenness and carrying a weapon without a license. Police found him nude and slumped over the wheel with a loaded pistol and a partly empty bottle beside him. He was arraigned in General Sessions Court and the case continued until Nov. 3. Pentagon officials noted his access to classified material while with the planning council. No immediate comment from Walt Rostow.
Donald Stuck, 33, Oil City, was bound over to court after a hearing before Alderman John E. Macintosh on charges of criminal assault and battery against a 68-year-old local woman. He was jailed for a $5,000 bond. The alleged attack occurred Monday at 7 p.m. when Stuck forced the woman into a car and drove her to a rural area where the assault occurred. The woman received treatment for a severe head laceration. Stuck pleaded not guilty at arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
Cambridge Springs police arrested Clyde Mayer and William Cole after chasing them from Crossingville tavern where they were found with about $1,000 in cash and some rare coins stolen from 73 year old Charlie George. George identified them after treatment for injuries from the beating.
The Senate Armed Services Committee urged Secretary McNamara to shelve the planned deactivation of 751 Army Reserve units until March. In a unanimous resolution, Congress would have time to consider further legislation on the Reserves and argued the move does not implement the congressional mandate to preserve Reserve strength.
Ernst Wolfgang Treunfels a 41 year old former Princeton trained space scientist sought in the fatal Brooklyn shooting of his father Rudolph Treunfels 67 was captured Friday night at his West Hartford residence He had fled California three years earlier after a missile base assignment and was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon Authorities said he was seen fleeing the sixth floor Brooklyn apartment with a gun in hand and the father was shot five times in the head and face
The report covers a multi battalion government drive in Phu Yen Province to protect a rice harvest, a heavy Viet Cong attack, and air strikes near Saigon. U S B 52 bombers raided targets about 7 to 10 miles south of Saigon while North Viet Nam claimed seven American planes down. Additional artillery, two battalions of 175 millimeter guns, and relocation plans for billets in Saigon were announced. The Viet Nam commander approved safer air strike measures for noncombatants.
State Police at the Katib station report Kane residents Charles Mears 43 and Ey rence E. Wagner 23 disappeared since last Sunday. The pair from Warren were last seen in swamp between Wilcox and Klermont east of Kane. A search by about 125 volunteers and civil defense members covered 70 square miles with no trace. Police found no evidence they were in the area.
