Cairo reports Egypt rapidly mobilizing and accusing Britain of aggression as Britain sends fresh troops to the Suez Canal zone. The Cheshire Regiment arrived from Cyprus to reinforce canal defenses, while Egypt alleges new British acts of aggression and plans to resist. Boston reports Lou Boudreau selected as Red Sox manager to replace Steve ONeill. Boudreau, 84, signed a two year contract after joining the Sox last spring following his release as Cleveland manager. ONeill will remain with the organization in a farm system role.

Co defendant Charles Ploss 24 did not appeal. Benjamin Swan age 63 was killed during a burglary at his Tonawanda home. his wife and daughter were wounded but survived. Earlier the Rochester appellate court affirmed the first degree murder verdicts for Pohl and Ploss.
Paul Fleming of Salt Lake City was arrested in Salt Lake City by officers from Port Arthur Texas after a $800 check forging scheme. Fleming and companion William Steele, both former Port Arthur suspects, had worked as bookkeepers at a Port Arthur liquor store and stole 17 checks signed by owner Abe Amuny. Port Arthur police pursued them since early 1930s, indictments already returned, and they planned to face trial next month. Deputy Sheriff J C Vander of Port Arthur and Port Arthur authorities coordinated with Salt Lake police.
Associates Press reports that Pennsylvania’s 26th Division, known as the Bloody Bucket, is preparing to voyage to join the Atlantic Fleet forces. About 18,100 men expect to sail for Germany around November 15 and be stationed in the Baltic Sea under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Major General Daniel Strickler of Lancaster commands the outfit, a former state National Guard division. Strickler invites Hoosiers to attend a final division review Friday, with General Mack Clark and several governors and U.S. senators expected. The unit is packing for overseas from Camp Atterbury with four departure groups planned from Atterbury.
Harrisburg report states average auto insurance rates up about 20 percent with new filings from insurers affiliated with the National Board of Casualty Underwriters. Property damage for private passenger cars up 30 percent and bodily injury up 12 percent, while commercial lines see property damage rates jump over 18 percent.
An Associated Press dispatch from Harrisburg reports an average motorist rate increase of about five dollars. A policy with 10000 bodily injury, 20000 liability, 3000 property damage, and 1000 medical payments rises from roughly 28 to 84 dollars for new issues and renewals starting December 1, with higher costs for drivers under 25. The rise reflects nationwide loss trends and inflation, with similar hikes already in 30 states.
President Truman plans new taxes effective November 1 to raise about 6.69 billion dollars yearly. He signed a bill adding individual rate hikes and excise taxes on liquor gasoline and appliances while noting the need to fund strong defenses. William Spangenberg a 50 year old Corry man, was nearly fatally wounded at his wife’s Gould Street home in what Jamestown police called a self inflicted gunshot. He fired on the front porch around 10:50 last night, entering his left chest and exiting the thigh, then crawled through the house before collapsing. His wife and two daughters witnessed the events as investigators work to determine motive.
Two Corry residents Earl A Sperry and Howard Emerson, both from this city, will face morals charges before the Erie County Grand Jury when it convenes next Monday. Tony Grignoll and Joseph Kelly are tied to bribery and conspiracy rumors, with 18 of the 22 cases involving drunken driving. Also named in the duty list are Mrs. Nell Black of Fairview and Mrs. Blanche Gates of Corry.
Three year old Dine Greer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Willism Greer of Riceville, died Saturday night from pneumonia linked to scald burns suffered Friday when she pulled boiling water onto herself while trying to wash a washing garment. Deputy coroner Dr W B Harnes ruled accidental death. The child survived by her parents and two brothers, Joh and Thomas. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Tousey and Bays Funeral Home in Sparkmanburg with burial in Riceville Cemetery.
Eight year old Marlin Robbins, son of Mr and Mrs Maniey Robbins of 562 East Main Street, recently discharged from Zem Zem Hospital Erie after weeks of infantile paralysis treatment. He developed pneumonia last Friday and was moved to Corry Memorial Hospital on Saturday. his condition today is listed as serious.
In northwest Korea, air activity heats up as six jet battles are reported near Kumsong while UN forces push into the area. American pilots claim several Russian MiG-15s destroyed or damaged in a 20 minute dogfight as Patton tanks support advances. Casualties in ten days of fighting estimated around 15,000.
