State probes pollution of Bass Stream

Representatives from the state fish commission and water board visited Sheffield to investigate ongoing pollution of Nonesta Creek. Thousands of dead fish and 3000 bass planted years ago were wiped out by pollution linked to a refinery incident claimed a year earlier. Samples were taken as groups linked to local gun clubs and the Walton League urged action. The creek flows through the Allegheny National Forest, where pollution has long plagued the waterway.
