Mayville on October 19 reports Samuel Lee Bryant, 34, of Cleveland Ohio, was sentenced by Judge Hugh V N Bodine to 15 years to life in Attica prison as a fourth offender after pleading guilty to second degree grand larceny and third degree burglary. His prior Ohio convictions were in 1933 1936 and 1941. District Attorney Edwin G O Connor led the People.

Lawrence McKnight, 34, of Johnsonburg, will be tried for involuntary manslaughter at Elk County Court's January term for the death of Frederic A. Launer, 50, of Klondike. A coroner's jury found McKnight drove too fast for road conditions when Launer, father of eight, was struck near the Routes 219 and 240 intersection as he walked along the highway. Launer apparently stepped into the car’s path while avoiding a puddle. The Dominican Republic note follows.
