Japanese Cruiser Sunk Off Kia Chao by German Mine

London dispatches report the loss of the Japanese cruiser Takachiho off Kia Cha harbor while on patrol. Only thirteen of the crew and officers were saved as German mines damaged the vessel. The raid follows other European naval actions, with Berlin claiming Turkish and Austrian submarine activities and British ferried troops fighting near Dunkirk.

Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly Held

Yesterday in the Barlow building rooms the Fourth Degree Assembly of the Third District of Pennsylvania Knights of Columbus met with delegates from Erie Kane Warren Meadville Oil City Brad ford and St Marys. It was announced the next exemplifying work date and place will be in Oil City around February 1. Delegates were entertained at the local rooms and dined at the Phoenix Hotel in the evening.

Personal Crisis Reports In Mine With Dynamite

East Liverpool Ohio October 14 Ollie Wright of Obloyilo Pennsylvania found in a coal mine near the state line believed killed by a dynamite firing stick. Wright was well known in the area and his death is linked to an explosion in the mine.

Will Build Residences on Congress Street West

J Alexander completed the purchase of two Tolon Weal Congress street lots, just west of Murray’s new home. Two new houses are planned next year with work starting in early spring. The barn used by Alexander and Co. on Congress street was towed to the rear section of the newly purchased property.

United Press report from Mineola describes jurors chosen to try Mrs. Morence Carmen wife of Dr. Carman charged with shooting and killing Mrs Louie Bulley in Breeport last June night. Courtroom crowd gathered early. fashionably dressed women attended amid police and deputies. Autos and trains from New York Long Island towns carried attendees as mass interest built around the case.

Horse plunges into moving train at Colea crossing

Jay Goodwood, an aide on the A. D. Nelli farm, narrowly escaped death when a horse he was driving bolted and struck the last Pullman coach of Pennsy train No. 89 at Colea crossing. The train was moving fast and only minor scratches remained on the Pullman as it reached the depot.

First Local Grange Fair Proves Big Success

The Corry Grange hosted its first local fair to great effect with 604 entries across all departments. More than a thousand visitors attended, as judges praised quilts, crochet, embroidery, canned fruits, baking, apples, cabbage, corn stalks, vegetables, flowers, and curios, while Victors operated the fair’s power and lighting supplied by local firms.
