Van Zandt in TV tape flap over campaign ad plan

A telegram accused Van Zandt of planning to televise out of context parts of a program paid for by the committee. He said he planned to use the tape as a statewide advertisement and expected stations to back down after Morse's wire. He planned a TV appearance soon without Clark to discuss what he told a Pittsburgh audience on Oct. 5. The Democrats paid about $1,000. Van Zandt bought the tape for $175. A WTAE spokesman said the dispute must be resolved by the candidates. Fielding legal concerns, Feldman said the tape aired publicly and that anyone can spend $175 to obtain a tape.
