A 39 year old Buffalo machinist Gordon H. Smith was taken into custody hours before President Johnson’s planned Niagara Falls motorcade. He owned a .22 rifle and was arrested at his workplace overlooking the Niagara section of the Thruway on a vagrancy charge. The Johnson visit was canceled for security and timing reasons.
Four Titusville residents including Mrs. Mathew Miller Mrs. Lester Lyons Mary Miller age 15 and Ronda Greer age 15 reported sighting an unidentified flying object northeast of Titusville at about 10 30 p m last night. They viewed the object through binoculars from the Miller home as it moved slowly in a westerly direction and appeared to rotate with red blue and yellow colors.
A new non profit corporation named Pennsylvania Dental Service Corp was chartered by Dauphin County Common Pleas Court to provide group dental services in hospitals and surgical fields. State Health Secretary Wilbur and Insurance Commissioner Kelly approved start of service as Pennsylvania joins 22 states with prepaid dental care. SNOW REMOVAL FUND Harrisburg The State Highways Department plans to spend 26.5 million dollars on snow removal this winter about 2.7 million less than last year.
London AP reports Harold Wilson's Labour party inching toward a ward victory in the national elections. Early returns from 502 of 630 districts show Conservatives with 181 seats, Liberals 50, Labour 268, and Others 1. Analysts predict a thin Labour margin that could still force governing challenges and possible resignation if key votes fail.
Corry's paving project will begin next Monday, with Western Pennsylvania Asphalt Paving Company moving equipment into the city. Starting Monday morning, crews will pave Grove Street and Concord Street, after preparation work completed earlier in the summer. Paving will continue from Grove Street onto East Church Street, East Pleasant Street, Spring Street, Fifth Avenue, Clinton Street, Park Street, West Irving Street, Elm Street at Snyder Circle, Delaware Street, and a short stretch of Essex Street.
Two auto incidents were reported in Cotty County. Nellie Beardsley, 42, of Union City, was treated for whiplash after a truck driven by Alfred Jensen, 52, rammed her vehicle on Route 6 as she turned into a private drive. Damage estimated up to 500 dollars.
