Egypt Attacks Israeli Position as War Intensifies
Egyptian commandos reportedly landed behind Israeli lines in the Sinai to storm a position amid heavy hand to hand fighting as tanks shifted new lines. Cairo, asserting gains along the front, cited a seven hour battle while Tel Aviv kept silent on the raid. The Egyptian version claims 150 to 200 Israeli tanks and 15 to 29 warplanes lost, with Cairo saying gains were made all along the line. Syrian front battles also raged as Damascus reported heavy clashes near the capital, while Israel said its naval patrol boats sank 14 armed fishing boats at Ras Gharib. The night was otherwise quiet on both fronts.
