He arrives from American Machine and Foundry in Buffalo where he was works manager and previously served as vice president in charge of production at American Bantam Car Co in Butler. Kenneth R Benson says Lenton will oversee all production at the Fourth Ward plant. He was guest of honor at a party for Aero Plant executives at the Hotel Corry.
Coal miners at U S Steel Corp Robena mine resume work after a two day strike over seniority rights. The settlement ends a regional dispute idleing 9800 workers and closing 15 mines across Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Thirteen Nationalist party members from Puerto Rico, plus four others, are convicted of seditious conspiracy to secure Puerto Rico independence by force. Sentencing set for October 26 by Judge Lawrence B. Walsh, with maximums of six years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Several defendants already face prior sentences for shooting into the House gallery in March. The group sought full independence for Puerto Rico, now a U.S. commonwealth, despite referendum votes.

George Welch, famed World War II triple ace, died after ejecting from a high speed jet in the Mojave Desert. The North American Aviation test pilot, 36, parachuted to safety but died of injuries en route to Edwards Air Force Base. Witnesses reported a massive explosion as the F109 Super Sabre reportedly broke up in a dive. Officials weigh jet pulse eruption as possible cause.
White House aides monitor President Eisenhower and Cabinet member Wilson amid criticism over Wilsons remarks. Officials fear the fallout could affect November congressional races. Eisenhower plans briefings and a GOP event October 24 to shore up support and address the issue as it develops.
A near head on collision at a Columbus intersection left two drivers unharmed though both vehicles sustained damage. Mrs Laure Worris of Columny reported the incident while Paul Urioh, 66, of Ease operated the other car. Urioh was westbound on Route 1 and the Columbus woman eastbound, attempting a left turn onto the Columbus- Lotlaville road. Estimated damage was $125 to the Morrix vehicle and $20 to Urioh’s car. Authorities investigated the crash late yesterday.

The two day session reviews mental health problems and possible government actions. The opening featured Luther W. Youngdahl, former Minnesota governor, now in Washington. Inmates at the South Dikonesuute Penitentiary halted a riot late yesterday after a brief stand. A head on collision between a Pittsburgh Railways Co trolley and a cement mixer truck in the Oakland district injured 19 people, one seriously. The seriously injured is trolley motorman John Dyer, 62. Truck driver John Lucas, 29, and 17 trolley passengers were treated at hospitals.
