French Abandon Indochina Bastion Opens Front to Ho Chi Minh
Saigon reports the French abandoned the Thutkhe bastion on the China Indochina frontier, a third frontier post lost in a month. The withdrawal leaves about 200 miles of the frontier exposed to Vietminh guerrillas led by Ho Chi Minh. A military spokesman said garrison withdrawal moved toward Langson, with retreating troops already within 25 miles of the frontier fortress 30 miles southeast.
