Miller Home at Waterford Destroyed by Fire
The Miller home of Phil Miller head of the Buddy Players was destroyed shortly after midnight by a blaze believed to stem from an oil stove explosion. Youth Given Life Sentence In Crown Point Case
In Crown Point Indiana on October 12 Perry Swank a 15 year old pleaded guilty to killing an elderly filling station attendant Eugene Duckworth 70. He was sentenced by Judge Martin L Smith to life imprisonment in Lake County juvenile court. Swank admitted shooting Duckworth for $40 and had given $44 to his unwed mother before dropping a dollar into a church collection plate. He grinned at sentencing and congratulated his attorney John Halfer as the judge imposed the life term.
