Senate Drops Debate on TV Time for Candidates

The Senate leadership abandoned efforts to require free time for joint appearances by Nixon Humphrey and Wallace. Majority Leader Mansfield said GOP opposition left no choice but to table the equal time bill and pursue a $674.7 million appropriations measure instead. Dirksen used a quorum tactic, keeping 63 senators from voting as the session stalled.

Car crash near burg road injures Allan Ayers

A 1968 coupe collided with a truck half a mile south of Burg Road yesterday afternoon. Allan Ayers, 18, of 599 Liberty Street, sustained head, face chest and rib injuries and was admitted to Corry Memorial Hospital. Knapp suffered a bruised left arm. Damages totaled 4000 to the car and 200 to the truck. Trooper Haskins said Ayers entered the highway from a secondary road into the path of the northbound auto.

Ohio River Bridge Declared Unsafe For Use

A 71-year-old Ohio River bridge between East Liverpool Ohio and Chester West Virginia is unsafe for normal traffic due to serious corrosion on cables. It carries U S 90 and will be limited to two lanes spaced 45 feet apart, with a one lane operation after a year and possible closure after two years. The bridge is a sister-span of the Silver Bridge which collapsed near Gallipolis last December.

LeMay Plans Trip To Viet War Zone

Retired Air Force Gen. Curtis E. LeMay will visit Vietnam to assess the war for presidential hopeful George C. Wallace. The four day trip is planned for Oct. 15 with a Wallace television address set for Oct. 20. LeMay travels with three Alabama aides and has long defended strong Vietnam policy.

Corry CHEER enters its seventh year serving 190 handicapped residents with sports entertainment and rehabilitation. Trooper John Evanko of the Pennsylvania State Police resumes leadership of the bowling program at VFW Club lanes and participates in Friday activities. The Overcomers Club and CHEER partners span Corry Spartansburg Columbus Spring Creek and Bear Lake, funded solely by voluntary gifts with no recent curtailment.

Penn Central Drops Two Passenger Trains Amid Low Patronage
