Corry and Erie voters will be checked in a county wide house to house canvass for registration irregularities. A foreman and chief supervisor at the General Ben trio works pattern making department drowned when his sedan slid into Erse Bay near 1225 E 20th Street. His body was found after three hours in muddy water about 20 feet from the bank. He was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes accuses William Lemire of being a deliberate stooge for Alf Landon. He blasts Father Coughlin and Lemke as fake ploys while urging Union party votes against Roosevelt. Ickes spoke before the Good Neighbor League as a 75,000 Ohio audience gathered to hear political contrasts.
Senator Williams Borah of Idaho says he has no plans to participate in the national campaign for Alf. She says she has made no promises and is focused on running on her record. Rumors about her remarks are circulating, but she intends to address national questions only in public speeches.

pilot George Pomeroy and three passengers lost bearings in a rainstorm en route from Newark to Portsmouth. A TWA radio operator at Port Columbus relayed location by beacon failure and a Portsmouth motorist circle lit by headlights guided the Douglas plane to a safe emergency field near the stadium. Passengers were Lewis Bremer Bernard Harrington and Albert Powell of New York.
Two college students, Hurrin Ran Wall, 21, of Cleveland Helebts Ohio, and Margaret Wallen, 26, of Newtonville Massachusetts, died when a driver lost control and the car struck a telephone pole near the highway outside Yukon Springs. Both victims were students at Anti och College.
Manila dispatch reports H R Blis and Ekins lead a world flight race by air with plans to depart Manila for San Francisco aboard Pan American Airways Hawaii Clipper. Competitors Mrs Dorothy Rilgnires and Leg Kieran trail about five days and nearly 5000 miles behind. The China Clipper is set to resume Manila to Midway and onward to Honolulu before circumnavigating to New York.
Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins defended the Local Security Act against Republican critics calling it farsighted and nonpartisan. She spoke at a Women’s Day luncheon in Cleveland, while Herbert Benjamin of the national joint action committee criticized Governor Landon’s stance on the program. Mrs Katherine Abbey, in New York area conferences, returned home last evening.
Postmaster James Sullivan reports steady monthly gains in post office sales for the year, with September up over 1,000 dollars from August. Nine month totals show an increase of 2,861.51 over last year, while October through December are expected to bring larger boosts.
State Highway Patrol and Warren police traced two youths John Fritch aged 15 and Alec Serand aged 16, both with prior records, to the theft of a Rex Theatre manager John Blatt's car. They confessed to stealing the automobile and later stealing bicycles in Erie to fund travel to Warren. Authorities plan to extradite them for prosecution.
United Press reports in Pittsburgh that Joseph B. Ely, former Massachusetts governor, warned at Republican rallies that Roosevelt could win in New York and Pennsylvania due to socialist and communist votes. Ely asserted Roosevelt’s backing by socialists and communists, despite not seeking it, and cautioned the two states’ votes would decide November.
Governor Landon argues against the Roosevelt administration’s use of public funds to sway voters as the 1936 campaign reaches Ohio. He accuses the “pro-punitive” federal machine of pressuring voters on relief and calls for pulling spenders from Washington to balance the budget in four years. President Roosevelt mounts two speeches in Nebraska and pledges reform while touring the Midwest with supporters and farm groups.
State check relief arrives for Harry's district as about $9,200 is slated for the first week of September to cover payroll and current bills. The treasury mailed subsidies totaling 5,100 to 6 hundred districts from proceeds of a $45,000,000 tax anticipation notes issue. The September payment for the great district has been met.
Berlin Oct 10 Germany has reopened a noncommissioned officers school at Potsdam that was closed 17 years ago under Versailles terms. The school, founded in 1825, trained youths for long term military service from age 16, marking a new step in Germanys military revival.
Two Conneautville residents found the body of Christina Mary Dureller, 33, from Springville New York, about 30 miles south of Buffalo, near the inverted routes of the Southwestern Boulevard. Authorities report a post mortem to determine the exact death cause. No marks on the neck and the face bears bruises. The victim was last seen Wednesday morning boarding a train to Buffalo to attend a moving picture show.
Four year old Donna Marie Ceruso died after running into the street in Oil City Pennsylvania when struck by a car driven by Joseph Halim of Riverside Drive Gil City Witnesses described the fatal accident as sudden and tragic and ongoing police investigation was indicated
