United Fund drive reports four day total of $25,200 about 35 percent of goal as Corporate Division reaches $13,500 and National Bank of Corry pledges include a $700 corporate gift. Other divisions show varied progress with industrial, merchantile, state and federal figures and a School pledge of $500 at 25 percent.
Senator Hubert H. Humphrey campaigns in New Jersey and Pennsylvania with a two day schedule including a Philadelphia rally, Princeton University talk, and appearances in Jersey City and Philadelphia suburbs. He praises Johnson, Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy and credits the 88th Congress with strong leadership.
Les Pratt, 22, was killed when a Nis oar stock a bridge abut monk near his home in nearby Delferson behindh. Pratt was slain in a tragic accident or confrontation on a local structure. Police unavailable for details at this time.

Located to Medina sand at 4000 feet, it produced about one million cubic feet daily open flow and four million after fracturing. The well will feed United Natural Gas lines. James I Shearer, president of James Drilling, notes ongoing drilling in Hayfield Township and Conneautville areas.
Adlai E. Stevenson the U S ambassador to the United Nations arrived in New York with a bandaged right hand saying he was wounded while trying to stop a dog during a peacekeeping reception for Philippine President Diosdado Macapagal. He called the incident a reminder of the dangers of peacemaking.
James W. Killough, a 42 year old former mailman who confessed to strangling his wife and feeding her to police, was released after a judge said he believed the man was guilty. The appeals court ruled three confessions invalid, leaving insufficient evidence for trial. Killough’s wife vanished on October 13, 1960, and her body was later found after police followed a confession later ruled invalid due to interrogation methods.
Corry State Police rounded up four area youths, ages 16 and younger, after a month long probe into a string of September burglaries. The suspects allegedly hit a hunting camp owned by Alfred Napieriski, a cabin owned by Ted Amoroso, Bernard Forter’s Spring Creek store, and another Spring Creek cabin. Loot included boots, blankets, food, candy, shell ammunition, shaving cream, and rugs. all items were returned. Because of age, the case was referred to the Erie State Police youth officer for unofficial probation.
AP reports Cecil the crane at Vancouver Zoo escaped its enclosure. Curator Larry Lesage urges observers not to shoot when spotting a large pale grey bird with a red head and wings spanning six feet, noting Cecil may be in pain from paleness and has been roaming nearby.

Joseph Francis Bryan de, 20, exconvict and former mental patient, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping of 10 year old Johnny Robison from Mount Pleasant. The boy's body was found March 5 in a Florida swamp. Bryan also faces probes in New Jersey, Florida and Tennessee for other child kidnappings and deaths. He is linked to two other child deaths in New Jersey and Florida and charged with kidnapping another boy in Humboldt Tennessee.
A Allegheny County coroner's jury cleared Daniel XK Schreckengost of responsibility in the death of 1x year old Jayne Feroce after his car struck her in a Pittsburgh area crash last month.
Cleveland teenagers Miata Schendelly and Janice Timkins were missing after departing to London via the U.S. Embassy. They had reportedly joined a world touring group with $1,400 in funds. Authorities pursued leads as the search spread to London.
A U S helicopter pilot was shot and killed by Viet Cong fire minutes after exiting a disabled craft 370 miles northeast of Saigon. The incident, amid 2011 U.S. deaths in Viet Nam since 1961, followed an attempted ground operation rescue by another helicopter. Ground troops drove the Viet Cong from the area. Washington AP report says Doris Lesson, nationally syndicated political columnist, was listed in fair condition at Washington Hospital Center after an attack of high blood pressure. Her husband, Lt. Lyndon B. Johnson, reportedly visited but she would remain for several days of medical tests.
