Democratic registration gains wide in city politics with 2 158 total qualified for election over three days. Democrats surpassed 1 000 for first time, while Republicans held a 1 320 to 1 001 edge overall. Concentrated gains in First and Fourth Wards amid ward-by-ward shifts.
Paul Hawkinson of Jamestown faces reckless driving charges after a Findley Lake road collision with Marian Berry of West Pleasant Street. Hawkinson was arraigned before Alderman Gordon, waived hearing, and is held for the grand jury with $1000 bond. judgment in Berry’s favor against Jack Palt, owner of Hawkinson’s truck, for damages to Berry’s car.
Charles DuPont 89 of Sugar Lake died after an accidental shooting by his seven year old grandson as the child loaded a .22 caliber rifle at Dudley DuPont’s home in Sugar Lake. He died Sunday at Spencer Hospital.
Public utilities workers declared a midnight general strike in Havana as thirty four bombs exploded before daybreak. Streetcars fired, taxis stoned, oppositionists roamed the city firing at will. A major blaze gutted Ahora newspaper plant. Diarolo in Ma vina attacked. Army tanks waited at Camp Columbia as patrols spread through the capital.
Charles Sakal ten from Timblin Pa was in serious condition at Adrian hospital after a gunshot wound believed accidental inflicted by his younger brother. Parents Wasy and Mrs Sakal discovered blood on bedclothes and rushed him to surgery where doctors removed the bullet under his back skin.
Washington dispatch reports the administration calls all law enforcement to a coordinated campaign against criminal plunder costing the nation $12,000,000 annually. Attorney General Homer S. Cummings announces a December 10 national crime conference led by President Roosevelt to devise a cooperative program among federal, state, and local agencies. Also notes Mr and Mrs C F Blas and Bud Hoan traveling to Chicago for the Century of Progress exposition.
Fred J. Weaver of Liberty street a former city councilman suffered a fractured right clavicle while his brother Albert and brother in law L W Lang were cut and bruised in an auto collision that wrecked their car. They were treated at Cory hospital and later released. An Erie party in a Terraplane crashed into a tree on Hare Creek road during Sunday forenoon with no serious injuries.
United Press reporters in Madrid and Asturias described a Socialist revolt under heavy fire. Enrique Riestra, at the Asturias civil governor’s HQ, took part in defending the building as rebels attacked. The attackers suffered heavy losses. defenders had no reported casualties.
Mercer Pa October a coroner jury urged revoking Michael Burkovitchs drivers license after investigating the death of William Hicks in Glenshaw Burkovitch from Bina Pa was driving the car Hicks rode in when it crashed into a Rose Pittsburgh owned vehicle Hicks died two days later in the hospital
In Flemington New Jersey Judge Thomas W Trenchard directs the Hunterdon county grand jury to consider evidence against Bruno Richard Hauptmann for murder in the Lindbergh kidnapping. The charge states Hauptmann allegedly killed Charles A Lindbergh Jr during a burglary and caused the infant's death by a blow. The panel sits with Col Lindbergh testifying as crowds fill the courthouse.
The Supreme Court today rejected Frederick B. Campbell's appeal challenging President Roosevelt's gold hoarding regulations. Campbell, a New York lawyer indicted for hoarding, sought to raise the issue last spring but failed on technical grounds. The appeal covered two cases: forcing Chase Nations Bank to return 27 bars of gold and an action to stop federal prosecutors from pursuing the indictment.
The U S Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to the dollar's gold valuation as defined by recent congressional action and a presidential order. The appeal targets bonds of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, a ruling already upheld by New York's Court of Appeals.

In Connellsville Pennsylvania on October 8 Donald Stehle a 42 year old World War II veteran who had not worked since the army killed Mrs Lotte Woods also about 42 then fatally shot himself after a quarrel that began in a down town apartment where Woods had gone to wash clothes following an earlier argument with Stehle The suspect followed her there and the pair argued again Five shots were heard as Mrs Woods slumped in the hallway with Stehle dying beside her near the apartment of Laura Rust and Katharine Ritenour
Reuters copy notes Madrid reports that a general strike widened in Corunna province and rebel leaders warned of guerrilla fighting as government forces respond with police, navy, and artillery. At least 350 dead and 1,200 injured. Catalonia leaders jailed. Francesco Largo Caballero led the revolt from hiding amid mounting arrests.
George Aldrich of West Irving Street was held for the next term of the quarter sessions court on a driving while intoxicated charge after a morning hearing before Alderman George H. Gordon. Bail set at $1,000. Aldrich had pleaded guilty to drunkenness and disorderly conduct at arraignment Sunday, then changed his plea. The alderman ruled the evidence sufficient to hold him for the grand jury after a 3 am Sunday arrest with friends in his automobile. He was jailed and sought bond to await county court action.
Detroit’s Lynwood Rowe allows ten hits as St Louis Cardinals rally to a 4 to 3 victory at Navin Field. Paul Dean pitched seven strong innings for the Cardinals while Delancey and Rothrock contributed key hits. The Tigers struggle with a pair of costly errors and late rallies fall short, keeping the series tied at three games each.
